We’re excited to announce that Freddy AI Copilot for Developers has moved from beta to general availability. This AI-powered development companion is now ready for production use, helping you build, migrate, and manage Freshworks apps directly from Visual Studio Code using natural language.
What is Freddy AI Copilot for Developers?
Freddy AI Copilot for Developers is a Visual Studio Code extension that transforms how you build apps on the Freshworks platform. Instead of writing boilerplate code and running CLI commands manually, you can describe what you want to build in plain language and let Freddy generate functional code, assist with migrations, and automate routine development tasks.
Previously available in beta, this release includes refinements based on developer feedback and introduces enhanced stability, improved code generation accuracy, and expanded feature support.
Key capabilities
- Conversation to code: Interact with Freddy in plain language using Ask mode (for code snippets and explanations) or Agent mode (for direct file modifications). Freddy understands your project context and helps you generate, explain, or debug code faster.
- Use case to code: Convert natural language descriptions into complete app structures. Describe your use case, approve the generated description, and Freddy builds the initial app code with all necessary files and components.
- AI-assisted app migration: Upgrade apps from platform version 2.X to the latest versions with intelligent assistance. Freddy analyzes changelogs, detects deprecated APIs, and proposes version-compatible replacements you can review and apply directly in VS Code.
- Code refinement actions: Right-click any code block to explain, refactor, review, generate documentation, add comments, create unit tests, or run security checks.
- Design to code (experimental): Transform Figma designs or image uploads into responsive HTML and CSS code that follows Freshworks design guidelines and CRAYONS components.
Getting started
To start using Freddy AI Copilot for Developers:
- Install Visual Studio Code (version 1.73 or later) and Node.js version 24.x
- Install the Freshworks Developer Kit (FDK)
- Install the Freddy AI Copilot for Developers extension from the Visual Studio Marketplace
- Configure the extension with your FDK path and Freddy API key (available from the Application Management Portal under Settings)
- Start building apps using natural language prompts
